Looking at Stars in Magazines: Racial Edition (not)

Magazines are fun when all you want to do is stay home and not freeze to death! Even though it's kinda pointless to buy magazines until the March issues surface, the February 2014 issues of Elle and W look nice and both have multiple covers. We actually hate when magazines do this. We have a frightening memory featuring us generally representing all over town (embarrassingly) looking for the April 2012 Drake cover of GQ, but I digress.

Here on Elle US we have Mindy Kaling looking glamourous as hell! We recognize there is a ton of shit being said about the fact that her's is the only cover that is in black and white and a close-up, whereas the other WHITE ladies' photos are almost full body and in COLOUR. We agree that there is something amiss afoot. But we are not very political and we honestly didn't even know there were other covers when we saw the Mindy cover for the first time (on her Instagram!). We'll just wait and see what she has to say about it! Girl has opinions!

These starlets look good too...

We are somewhat less pleased with these W covers. We aren't dying for the Polaroid look (yes, we know this is distinctive Juergen Teller, and we still love and admire the Marc by Marc Jacobs ads seen in our Teen Vogue days, but not for a glossy cover). Anyway, we are happy to see they featured 2 women of colour. Lupita Nyong'o and Matthew McConaughey look particularly darling. Amy Adams looks a trifle unbalanced...see more after the jump.
